A recent recording I made with guitarist José Miranda. I met José earlier in the year, when he was in London with singer Jacque Falcheti for their European tour. I sat in for some of their gig at the Green Note. It was great to be invited by José to do this little collaboration. We chose to play this classic by Pixinguinha, one of my favourite choros.

Alvorada filming for Latino Life documentary
This week, Alvorada went in to Rich Mix again for some more filming with Latino Life. This time they invited us to take part in their documentary, to be released later in year, which will explore the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Latin music scene in London. Here are some shots of the beautiful set that formed the backdrop of our performances.
Alvorada at Doña
After the success of our last gig at Folklore, we’re delighted to have another live date coming, on Saturday 24th October, this time at the classy Doña in Stoke Newington – also known for its great mezcal cocktails! It’s great to be able to play another show when opportunities are so limited at the moment. Musicians and venues are struggling alike, so we hope to have a good turn out for this one.

Alvorada at Folklore
News of a gig this Sunday, 20th September – Alvorada will be playing a live show in an actual venue! We had been planning to do another Garden Special gig. As we’re all getting used to in the current climate though, things can change at very short notice.
Therefore we’re delighted that Folklore have agreed to host us for this show, our first indoor performance since the beginning of lockdown. Tickets will be strictly limited, socially distanced, and available in advance only. Book here:

We can’t wait to be back on stage!

Alvorada at London Latin Music Conference (LoLaMC)
Alvorada had the pleasure of filming a couple of videos for the London Latin Music Conference, in connection with the London Latin music festival, La Linea . It was great to get to return to Rich Mix for the session, even if just to play in the empty space rather than a live gig.
For anyone interested in attending the online conference, with discussion panels and performances, it airs on September 11th, and is free to sign up to.

Alvorada play Amphibious
Another remotely recorded lockdown video with Alvorada – this time ‘Amphibious’ by Moacir Santos (who I think of as a kind of Brazilian Duke Ellington).
Duas Contas with Gabriela Kozyra
A lockdown collaboration with Gabriela Kozyra.
Gabi is one of my favourite singers to play with, we share a love of a certain kind of deep, soulful, heartfelt music. I suggested doing something together, and she chose this beautiful song, ‘Duas Contas’ by Garoto.
If you enjoy this, then check out Gabi’s album ‘Noites Brasileiras’, featuring the absolute cream of choro and samba musicians from Rio. Happy memories of playing those tunes for gigs in London and Poland last year, I hope we’ll do it again some day…
Engomadinho with Jacque Falcheti
Another video recorded remotely in lockdown, this time with the wonderful Jacque Falcheti. We played together earlier this year when she was in London as part of her European tour. Delighted that we’ve now made this collaboration between here and Riberão Preto in Brazil.
This is a choro-samba called ‘Engomadinho’ – meaning smart, dapper, dressed up…!
