Delighted as ever to be returning with Alvorada to The Harrison, our home from home, on Saturday 6th November. It’s a great venue, but has been very hard hit by the pandemic and are only just managing to keep things going. This’ll be a fun gig as always – we hope to get a great crowd in to support this special place.
Here’s one I’m really looking forward to… On Sunday 24th October, Luiz Morais will launch his new album, ‘In The Weave’. He recorded it earlier this year in Brazil, featuring an elite group of musicians in Rio de Janeiro. The music is absolutely fantastic. Over several years of playing alongside Luiz in Alvorada, it’s been a pleasure to hear him developing his compositional voice, and now to see it realised in this new project.
The London launch promises to be a great gig, and features an equally talented bunch of players from the London jazz scene, who I can’t wait to play with: Gareth Lockrane (flutes), Laura Jurd (trumpet), Tom White (trombone), John Turville (piano), Misha Mullov-Abbado (double bass) and Raphael Delphino (drums), plus guests Rachel Hayter (flute) and Gabriela Kozyra (voice).
Amazingly, it’s been five years since we formed Alvorada. Time has flown! In that time, we’ve played numerous great gigs, released an album, won awards, played on the radio, travelled, and made many wonderful friends along the way.
We’re celebrating with a special anniversary gig on Wednesday 15th September at The Pheasantry in Chelsea. Hope you can join us for what should be a great occasion!
Following on from the success of November’s documentary release, Latino Life present ‘Fuerza London – The Concert’. It was a pleasure for Alvorada to be a part of this. We played Jeremy’s moving waltz, ‘Gina’.
Alvorada were featured in the recent documentary ‘Fuerza London’. Made by Latino Life, the film explores the experiences of the Latin community in London during the Covid pandemic, interspersed with performances from some of the leading bands on the capital’s Latin scene. It’s a really touching piece of work, and we were delighted to be a part of it.
