London Vocal Project + Printmakers

This Sunday 16th June is a special gig for London Vocal Project. We’ll be taking part in a special concert called The Many Voices of Eve, in a collaboration with The Printmakers. The concert will feature Nikki Iles and Norma Winstone, and will focus particularly on female songwriters, lyricists and poets. Nikki has written some new music especially for the occasion, which we have been working on for a couple of months. It is gorgeous music which I’ve fallen in love with, it’s really exciting to be performing it this weekend.

We’ll also be doing a pop-up a capella set in the foyer before the main concert. This will feature music by female singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Tori Amos and Kate Bush, in some new arrangements by Brendan Dowse. The free pop-up set is at 7pm, and the main concert begins at 8pm.

Extra Alvorada date added

We had a fantastic time at the launch for ‘First Light’ last night. We played tracks from the album, alongside some new tunes, and some arrangements with the amazing pianist Roee Ben Sira, our special guest.

It was great to have such an amazing turn out from all our supporters. The gig sold out well in advance, and in fact, there was such demand for tickets that we’ve added another date at the same venue – this time on May 2nd.

Alvorada at 15th Paris International Choro Festival

Alvorada had a great time at the Paris International Choro Festival this weekend. We performed material from our new album, sharing the bill on the closing night of the festival with the amazing duo of Zé Barbeiro and Dinho Nogueira. We also had a chance to hang out and join in the rodas with the other performers and students from the festival. It was great to see friends from Brazil and France who we hadn’t seen for a while, as well as all the new people we got to meet too. There was time for the odd ice-cream by the Seine too! Now we’re back in London, preparing for the UK album launch on April 15th.

AW band recording session

I’ve just completed the recording of my first album as band leader, featuring my own compositions spanning back over two decades. We spent two days at Fish Factory studio, with the fantastic sound engineer Ben Lamdin, and have recorded seven tracks which will form an album. Now to get stuck into post-production!
