It’s been great to get back on stage recently with Alvorada – our first gigs in months!
We played at Magpie’s Nest Festival, run by Nest Collective, on a beautiful day in early June. Then last night, we returned to a newly re-fitted Harrison Pub, for a joyful evening with a delightfully energetic audience.
Our next gigs coming up are at Peggy’s Skylight in Nottingham on July 16th, and Walthamstow’s Fellowship Square on July 25th.
My new album, ‘Song Unsung’ is released today on Oti-O Records!

The album features my own compositions (plus one arrangement of a contemporary Brazilian song). I play tenor sax throughout, alongside the wonderful Joe Auckland (trumpet), Rob Updegraff (guitar), Dave Manington (double bass) and Simon Roth (drums).
The beautiful design for the album was created by Max Franosch. I’m delighted with how it came out looking, and think the expressive imagery is perfectly in keeping with the music.
I was really touched by all the contributions and messages from everyone who supported the crowdfunding campaign for ‘Song Unsung’.
The campaign was a success, raising £2525 towards the costs of the album, and have made possible the commission of an exciting video animation to go with the title track.
Aware that many musicians are continuing to struggle as a result of the pandemic, and that my situation is pretty fortunate, I also decided to donate £200 from the proceeds to Help Musicians, a charity which supports musicians who are in difficulty.
I’m starting to send out rewards to supporters imminently, so you’ll be able to hear it very soon!

I’m delighted to officially announce my new album!
‘SONG UNSUNG’ will be released on 25th June 2021 on Oti-O Records.
It’s my first release exclusively under my own name. It’s taken a while, but is a personal milestone that I’m really happy to have reached, and I’m excited to be putting it out there.

Following on from the success of November’s documentary release, Latino Life present ‘Fuerza London – The Concert’. It was a pleasure for Alvorada to be a part of this. We played Jeremy’s moving waltz, ‘Gina’.
Next Monday, 21st December, London Vocal Project are hosting a Christmas live stream event. Here’s a brand new video from London Vocal Project, of which we’re really proud. The music is Pete Churchill’s reinvention of the classic carol ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’, given new meaning for modern times, and is a song of struggle, freedom and hope. As such, we decided to launch it today, which is United Nations Human Rights Day. The track features LVP soloists Hannah Berry and Ayesha Pike, as well as instrumental contributions from friends across the London scene. This project grew and grew, so we now have a rhythms section (including fantastic guitarist Femi Temowo), horn section, and huge string section. This was a massive undertaking! All the parts were recorded remotely from home during lockdown, and then put together by Brendan Dowse (audio) and Ivan Teage (video), all overseen by Katie Teage (producer). We’re delighted with the outcome and happy to be sharing it at this time.
I’ve been singing this song with LVP for more than a decade, and still find it capable of being moving, inspiring, and bringing solace. Hopefully this video will do the same for others.
Alvorada were featured in the recent documentary ‘Fuerza London’. Made by Latino Life, the film explores the experiences of the Latin community in London during the Covid pandemic, interspersed with performances from some of the leading bands on the capital’s Latin scene. It’s a really touching piece of work, and we were delighted to be a part of it.
An original Alvorada composition by Rachel and Luiz. ‘Borbulhando’ means ‘bubbling’ – this is a jacuzzi-inspired song!
This was filmed by Latino Life at Rich Mix, for the London Latin Music Conference Showcase. Latino Life are an amazing organisation who do loads to promote Latin music in the city.
