Alvorada, Brazil, choro, Gabriela Kozyra, Showstopper

Last gigs of the decade

Just a few more gigs left this year before we enter the ’20s!

This Saturday, November 16th, Alvorada play at the Elgar Room in the Royal Albert Hall, as part of the London Jazz Festival. A couple of days after, on November 18th, I’ll be playing in Showstopper: The Improvised Musical at the Lyric Theatre.

At the end of the month I have two gigs with Gabriela Kozyra, playing repertoire from her sumptuous album ‘Noites Brasileiras’. First on November 27th alongside Walter Lopes at Sands Films Studio, and then we travel to Poland to play at Raciborskie Cultural Centre on November 30th, also with Sam Watts and Andres Ticino.

Last up, on December 14th, I’ll be with London Vocal Project at Pizza Express Jazz Club, Soho. We’ll be performing a mixture of our unique arrangements of Christmas songs, alongside tunes from a new project – the James Taylor Songbook.

See the gigs page for links to more info.

Showstopper at Edinburgh Fringe

I’m just heading off to Edinburgh for a run of shows with Showstopper! The Improvised Musical. Always an absolute delight to get to play with this group of incredibly skilled, ingenious and joyful group of people. This is their twelfth consecutive year at the Fringe, and my third. I’m playing daily from July 31st to August 9th (the show itself continues up until August 26th).

Showstopper dates at The Other Palace

Showstopper: The Improvised Musical has just begun a two-month run at The Other Palace in Victoria. This show is an absolute joy to be part of – amazing skills, creativity, ingenuity and humour on display, and I’m excited to have a whole bunch of shows to look forward to. This run will also include the 1000th Showstopper performance – an incredible achievement. (I estimate I’ve done around 70 of them!)

I’ll be appearing on these dates: Jan 25, 29, 31; Feb 5, 8, 19, 20, 22, 26; March 7, 12, 14, 15.

Here’s a great preview piece in the Guardian:
